Located in the outer perimeter of the former Conterie di Murano, a building which is particularly representative of the island’s industrial heritage, Punta Conterie is first and foremost a cultural and urban regeneration project, the result of the commitment and vision of two entrepreneurs: Alessandro Vecchiato and Dario Campa. Alessandro Vecchiato, entrepreneur, man of culture, muranese. Vecchiato directs the cultural and artistic elements such as art exhibitions, catalogues, events and product development for InGalleria Shop. With a contemporary point of view. Dario Campa, co-owner with Vecchiato, takes the direction of the food&wine offer with Chef John Mark Nanit and Pastry Chef Selam Allaraj.
Two years at work, 800 square meters to renovate to give life to the ancient administrative area and the first-aid stations of Conterie Factory in Murano.
An ambitious project that not only has the benefit of returning to the island an invaluable piece of architectural heritage, but also – and above all – of putting Punta Conterie and Murano on the international map of culture and good taste, with a particular emphasis on what can develop when design culture makes links between tradition and contemporary research.
Napoleon Martinuzzi – artist, sculptor and leading figure in the world of glass – is the author of the restored rose window of the Punta Conterie’s entrance door. The artwork represents an “impiraressa” – Venetian term that derives from the verb “impirar”, to thread – while threading small glass pearls into cotton threads to prepare the skeins.
At her side a glassmaker at work. This is the only example of this kind of representation in the lagoon, the rose window dates back to the 1940s.
The strength and beauty of the Istrian stone marbles – used in the urbanization of Venice – resurfaces in the decorations of Punta Conterie building thanks to the restoration by skilled craftsmanship carried out in several stages.
First the restoration of the damaged areas and then a meticulous brush cleaning, the intervention has given life to decorations which are essential and capable of characterizing the entire building at the same time.
“Over long summer days, light shines through the canals turning on the multicolored bows of boats moored to the docks”.
This is the beginning of the Canal Chair description by Luca Nichetto for Moooi, the seat designed by the Muranese designer which perfectly fits Punta Conterie. Right from inside the space, comfortably seated, you can observe the movements and colors of the boats and the lagoon from the windows.
A fortuitous find in the attic of the “Ex-Conterie” brought to light some boxes containing the original mosaic tiles from the 1930s used in the covering of the staircase connecting the two levels of Punta Conterie.
Happened by chance, this occasion made it possible to take back the original staircase’s design, a linear structure and focal point made unique by the four soft green shades of the glass tiles.
The warm tones and delicate grain of the original solid oak wood characterize the parquet on the first floor of Punta Conterie.
A long and meticulous restoration during which each board has been numbered, removed and reassembled to recreate the initial design. Then, sandblasting and repainting finally brought the floor back to its original splendor.
The use of wood in Venetian buildings is common practice for its moisture absorption capacity, typical element of the lagoon climate. To counterbalance the wooden floor of the first floor of Punta Conterie, a noteworthy example of “Sansovino” ceiling which results from the interweaving of the beams adorned with splendid floral-themed paintings.
The cosiness of the interiors enhanced by the dark grey and sand tones on the walls, the central staircase made up of mosaic tiles fading between ten nuanced shades of aqua green, the exposed ceiling beams, the “sansovino” bins with floral decorations.
Architectural and interiors elements which are product of a restoration and preservation intervention by expert workforce for a location dedicated to hospitality and culture.
From morning until aperitif, Vetri Café is the place where you can enjoy small sweet and savoury delicacies recalling the Venetian tradition, yet reinterpreted with creativity. One of the best savoury snack is “el tramesin” – the Venetian sandwich – made out of two soft slices of milk bread stuffed until it gets the typical rounded shape. and also light lunch, fresh salads and the typical Spritz, perfect for “aperitifs with a view” on Murano and the lagoon.
InGalleria Shop is a cosy place that winds on the ground floor and shapes the common spaces between Vetri Café, Fioraio and the large outdoor dehors.
Designed as a concept store where you can buy art, design and photography books, small design objects made either by emerging creatives or important names from the international scene, InGalleria Shop also offers a selection of fashion accessories with details that show the heritage of the lagoon: bags made with the fabrics of historic Venetian companies and contemporary glass jewelry. Broad space is dedicated to products signed by Punta Conterie itself: glasses, plates, small interior objects, curious gadgets produced for exhibition events and the InGalleria / Punta Conterie Art Gallery Books series.
As the one and only green corner in Murano, Fioraio Green Boutique operates for residents and business in the lagoon as well as for guests and visitors of Punta Conterie to make the green world
play a central role not only during arrangements, events and setups but also in everyday life.
